February 8, 2011. Former general and Cabinet member Angelo Reyes shot himself in the chest before his mother’s grave at Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City. He was 65.
Days before the suicide, former Army Col. George Rabusa stated in a Senate inquiry that Reyes and other former Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) received P50 million in “send-off” money when they retired from service.
Reyes was laid to rest February 13 with full military honors at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
