May 1, 2011. Former Pope John Paul II (born Karol Józef Wojtyła, 1920-2005), was declared “Blessed” in a beatification ceremony, led by Pope Benedict XVI, in Vatican City. The beloved Pope is one step closer to being canonized as a saint. It was the fastest beatification in modern times.
