May 1, 2011. A decade of manhunt is over. Osama bin Laden, leader of terrorist group Al Qaeda and mastermind of the September 11 attacks in New York City, was killed in a firefight in Abbottabad, Pakistan, less than a mile away from a Pakistani military academy.

His body was brought aboard USS Carl Vinson the next day, and was later buried at sea.
