May 20 and 21, 2012. Lady Gaga’s two-day concert at the newly-opened SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City was met with fanfare and furor by Filipinos. The Catholic Church and some religious groups sought for the concert’s cancellation, and expressed concerns about the international pop singer’s tendency to perform “controversial” and “racy” acts on stage. The Pasay City government was on hand to monitor the event.
Fortunately, the concert went off without a hitch, but not without Lady Gaga herself quipping, “I’m not a creature of your government, Manila.”
